Repair and Failure Model
Failure timing uses the Weibull distribution (NIST/SEMATECH e-Handbook of Statistical Methods, section 1.3.6.6.8): the yearly chance of failing at age t (capped at 90 percent) is the hazard (k / lambda)(t / lambda)^(k - 1). The scale (lambda) and shape (k) for each appliance type, the brand adjustment, the average repair cost, yearly maintenance and resale curves are authored assumptions: no public machine-readable source exists for them. Every response lists them in meta.assumptions.
