Monte Carlo Range

Each calculation runs 10,000 simulated ownership paths by default. Every path varies the energy price (plus or minus 15 percent), yearly use (plus or minus 10 percent), maintenance (plus or minus 20 percent) and draws repair events year by year. The same request always returns the same range, because the random draws are seeded from the request unless you send a seed.

• Range -- the 5th to 95th percentile of total cost, in whole dollars
• Median and mean -- the center of the simulated paths
• Coverage -- the share of modeled operating cost whose price growth is fetched data
• Not included -- error in the authored assumptions on the repair and failure page
